Esposito brothers make historic debut in Italy's win over Turkey
In a Nations League match, Italy secured a 4-1 victory over Turkey, highlighted by a historic milestone for the Esposito family. Brothers Pio and Sebastiano Esposito both started the match, marking the first time two brothers have appeared in the same starting lineup for the Italian national team in 111 years. The last occurrence was in 1915 with Aldo and Luigi Cevenini.
Pio Esposito, playing for Inter, scored a goal and provided an assist during the match. Sebastiano Esposito, playing for Sassuolo, contributed to the tactical effort on the wing. With this appearance, the Esposito brothers join their sibling Salvatore as the first trio of brothers to play for the Italian senior national team.
Following the win, FIGC President Giovanni Malagi described the performance as a sign of progress for the squad under manager Roberto Mancini, noting the bravery of the young players in a difficult away environment.
