Espérance Sportive de Zarzis defeats Diambars FC 3-1 in CAF Cup
Espérance Sportive de Zarzis secured a 3-1 victory against Senegal’s Diambars FC in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round. The match, held at the Taieb Mehiri Stadium in Sfax, Tunisia, marked the Zarzis club's return to continental competition after a 20-year absence.
Diambars FC took an early lead in the 13th minute through El Hadji Djiby Diallo. However, Zarzis equalized in the 34th minute with a strike from outside the penalty area. The momentum shifted in the second half when Zarzis was awarded a penalty in the 51st minute, which Khalil Kassab converted in the 55th minute to make it 2-1.
Following a red card for Diambars player Mouhamed Diagne in the 65th minute, the Senegalese side was reduced to ten players. Zarzis capitalized on the numerical advantage in the 69th minute, with Samba Diouf scoring the third goal to finalize the 3-1 scoreline. The second leg is scheduled to take place in Dakar on September 12.
