Esquel Mayor appoints Gastón Escobar as Director of Neighborhood Boards

Esquel Mayor Matías Taccetta has officially appointed Gastón Escobar as the new Director of Neighborhood Boards for the Municipality of Esquel. The position had remained vacant for over a year, and Taccetta noted that the role is essential for maintaining contact between municipal officials, neighborhood authorities, and residents.

Escobar, who previously led the neighborhood board for the 28 de Junio district, stated his goal is to strengthen territorial links between various municipal departments.

Following the appointment, former mayoral candidate Juan Manuel Peralta commented on the move, noting that while Escobar was a trusted collaborator in the ‘Amor por Esquel’ group, the transition was personally difficult. Peralta emphasized that political compatibility is necessary for those working within the current administration.

Peralta also addressed regional issues, calling for a ‘historical reparation’ regarding the impact of the Futaleufú hydroelectric plant and raising concerns about transparency in tourism fund management and operational deficiencies in local sectors.
