Esquimalt man calls for stricter cycling rules after serious accident
Alan King-Jones, a 59-year-old man from Esquimalt, is calling for stricter cycling regulations following a serious bicycle accident on August 9. While traveling in a bike lane on Lampson Street, King-Jones was struck by another cyclist who failed to use the button at the E&N bike trail signalled crosswalk.
The collision resulted in severe injuries, requiring surgery that involved the removal of part of his bicep, a tendon, and a rotator cuff. King-Jones reported that his left arm may never function normally again. Following the incident, he received assistance from community members and a stranger who helped him navigate his discharge from the hospital and pharmacy.
King-Jones noted that managing his recovery alone has been physically and mentally taxing due to his struggles with PTSD.
