The 34th annual Peacekeepers Memorial Parade will take place on Sunday, Aug. 9, 2026 at 7 p.m. in Esquimalt Memorial Park, British Columbia. The ceremony honors Canadian veterans, members of the Canadian Armed Forces, RCMP and municipal police officers, and civilians who have served in United Nations‑sanctioned peace support operations.

Since 1948 more than 125,000 Canadian Armed Forces personnel have participated in peacekeeping missions, with roughly 125 fatalities. Over 5,000 police officers and thousands of diplomats and civilians have also served. The event marks the largest single‑day loss of Canadian peacekeepers, recalling the Aug. 9, 1974 shooting down of a Canadian Buffalo aircraft over Syria that killed nine crew members.

Organised by the B.C. Veterans Commemorative Association with support from Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt, the ceremony will feature a reading of names, a moment of silence, and a wreath‑laying. Commander Capt. Douglas Layton is expected to attend, and organizer Paul Paone encourages participants to wear the blue or orange berets associated with peacekeeping service.
