Esra Shaqiri completes master's degree in Chemistry at Goethe University Frankfurt

Esra Shaqiri, a student from Tetova, North Macedonia, has completed her master's degree in Chemistry at Goethe University Frankfurt in Germany. Her studies focused on physical chemistry, specifically within the specialized field of natural sciences.

Shaqiri's master's thesis, titled ‘Photolipid switching in a lipid environment to influence a Microbial Rhodopsin’, explores photochemical processes in a lipid environment and their impact on microbial rhodopsin. Her research sits at the intersection of physical chemistry, photochemistry, and molecular biology, examining how light can induce changes in lipid systems to affect the functioning of photosensitive proteins.

Goethe University Frankfurt is a major German research institution, ranked 53rd in Europe for academic research in chemistry according to the Nature Index 2026. Shaqiri conducted her work at the Riedberg campus, which houses the Faculty of Biochemistry, Chemistry and Pharmacy, as well as the Max Planck Institute of Biophysics.
