Esri Bulgaria to host World GIS Day conference in Sofia

Esri Bulgaria, in partnership with over 70 organizations, will host a major conference in Sofia on November 18 to mark the 27th World Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Day. The event, themed ‘GIS: The Power to Create an Intelligent Future Together’, is expected to draw more than 900 local and international experts to the Grand Hotel Millennium Sofia.

Key demonstrations scheduled for the forum include the debut of a National Access Point for transport data, presented by the Ministry of Transport and Communications. This system integrates continuous and real-time data regarding Bulgaria’s transport network and public transit to calculate routes. Additionally, the Medical University of Varna will present a GIS platform designed to analyze health inequalities across the country, assessing regional readiness for natural and man-made disasters.

Other featured technologies include a digital twin of the Sredets district in Sofia, providing a photorealistic 3D model and real-time urban data, and an interactive GIS system used by the Black Sea Basin Directorate. International speakers, including Mark Gilick from MapAction and Brooks Patrick from Esri, will discuss global applications of geospatial technology, ranging from disaster response in Mozambique to the development of the Rail Baltica corridor.
