Essam Abdel Fattah named head of Egyptian FA referees committee

Essam Abdel Fattah has been appointed president of the Egyptian Football Association's main referees committee for the 2026‑2027 season. He thanked EFA president Hany Abourida and the board, describing the role as a national responsibility. Abdel Fattah is currently in Ghana attending FIFA's elite referee course, which brings together international instructors and officials.

He outlined immediate priorities: finalising the committee’s technical and administrative vision, restructuring the main and sub‑committees, conducting referee fitness tests on 29‑30 July, and addressing pending issues such as referee promotions, a long‑overdue salary increase, and the composition of the international list. The new chairman promised a comprehensive work plan aimed at improving officiating standards, transparency and fairness across Egyptian competitions.
