ESSCOM conducts enforcement operation in Beluran
The Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM) conducted a two-day integrated operation in Beluran on September 28 and 29, resulting in enforcement actions and seizures totaling RM407,644.69.
During the operation, which involved 184 personnel from various federal, state, and local authorities, officials inspected 70 business premises and 170 vehicles. The crackdown uncovered three locations used for storing untaxed cigarettes and liquor, with the seized goods estimated to be worth RM114,194.53 including duties.
Enforcement actions, including fines and summons, amounted to RM293,450.16. Significant contributions to these penalties came from the Sabah Labour Department, which issued six compounds totaling RM159,000 and ordered the payment of RM48,100.16 in arrears. Additionally, the Companies Commission of Malaysia issued RM30,000 in compounds, and the Road Transport Department issued RM6,250 in summonses.
ESSCOM Commander Datuk Victor B Sanjos stated that the operation aimed to enhance public safety and order within the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESS Zone) by combating smuggling, the diversion of controlled and subsidized goods, and other illegal activities.
