Esselunga expands Italian retail footprint with new stores and hiring

Esselunga is expanding its retail footprint in Italy, marked by the recent opening of two new locations in Rome. These include a 635-square-meter supermarket in via Lattanzio and a smaller 215-square-meter LaEsse format in Corso d’Italia. The compact LaEsse store manages approximately 3,000 references while maintaining services such as assisted counters for meat, fish, and deli, as well as bakery, pastry, and home delivery.

This expansion coincides with the early start of Claude Sarrailh’s mandate as CEO and General Manager. To support ongoing growth, the group has launched over 40 recruitment processes for various roles, including sales assistants, bakers, pharmacists, and logistics staff. Planned openings include a new location in Milan near Parco Sempione and the reopening of a store in Gessate. Salary ranges for new permanent positions are reported to span from approximately €22,000 for full-time baristas to over €41,000 for pharmacists.
