Esselunga Supermarket on Viale Borri in Varese to Close Permanently
The Esselunga store at Viale Borri in Varese will cease operations on 2 August 2026, with the last day for in‑store purchases set for Saturday, 1 August. A sign at the entrance confirms the shutdown, but the parcel‑locker service will remain active on the site.
Customers are being redirected to the chain’s other Varese locations – the Masnago superstore and the Viale Europa outlet in the former Malerba area. The Viale Borri shop, opened in June 1979 as Esselunga’s first supermarket in the city, has served the neighbourhood for nearly five decades. It previously experienced a temporary closure in March 2021 during the inauguration of a new superstore on Via Gasparotto, reopened in June 2021 after renovations, and continued operating until the latest decision to close permanently.
The closure marks the end of a long‑standing retail presence that has been a reference point for generations of local shoppers.
