Copper cable thefts spur police actions across several German cities

Police investigations in Germany have uncovered a series of thefts targeting construction‑site copper cables. In Mühlhausen, thieves broke into a main distribution box on Arndtstraße and stole a 50‑metre, high‑voltage cable between 15:30 GMT on 15 July and 08:00 GMT on 16 July. In Bottrop, a group attempted to steal a 250‑metre copper cable; after a chase they fled toward Essen where a 55‑year‑old man was arrested and a 12‑year‑old child was found in the vehicle and handed over to a guardian. In Norderstedt, a man pushed a wheel‑barrow loaded with short copper cable sections from a construction site onto a railway crossing; the cables were recovered the next day near the crossing.

Other crime incidents reported in the cluster include a burglary in Erfurt stopped by construction workers, a home invasion in Oberloisdorf (Burgenland, Austria) that led to three Romanian suspects being arrested in the Czech Republic, and vandalism of linden trees in Willich that prompted an investigation and planned re‑planting. All incidents have prompted police statements, investigations, and, where applicable, arrests.
