Essen police hunt suspect after life-threatening assault

Police in Essen are searching for a 19-year-old suspect following a violent assault in the city's North Quarter on Saturday afternoon. The incident occurred near the ‘Am Freistein’ stop at the intersection of Beisingstraße and Stoppenbergerstraße.

Authorities report that the suspect severely beat and kicked a 30-year-old man, causing a massive head injury that left the victim in life-threatening condition. Both individuals involved are identified as Algerian citizens, and police noted that the two men were known to each other.

The suspect fled the scene before emergency services arrived and remains at large. He is described as being between 1.70 and 1.75 meters tall with short brown hair. At the time of the incident, he was reportedly wearing a turquoise jacket with pink lettering on the back and white trousers. Police have released photos to assist in the manhunt.
