Essen school building faces demolition despite million-euro investments

The former Gesamtschule Süd building in Essen-Stadtwald faces potential demolition despite a shortage of secondary school spaces in the city. Although millions of euros have been invested in the 1969 structure, recurring damage has prevented its permanent reuse as a school.

The Essen City Council is set to decide on a proposal to allocate 4.5 million euros for pollutant remediation planning. This follows previous investments of two million euros, yet it remains uncertain if these funds will prevent the building from becoming a ruin.
