Essendon coach Dean Solomon pleads for fan support

Essendon interim coach Dean Solomon has issued a plea to fans to support the club following a low turnout at the MCG during their loss to Sydney. The crowd of 24,767 was the lowest for an Essendon game at the venue in 33 years, excluding the COVID-19 period.

Last-placed Essendon has secured only two wins this season. If they lose their upcoming match against Port Adelaide at Marvel Stadium, it will mark the worst campaign in the club's history. Solomon expressed disappointment regarding the declining attendance but emphasized the potential within the team's young roster, noting that Sunday's lineup included seven players with fewer than 20 games of experience.

Looking ahead to the final game of the AFL season, Solomon urged supporters to attend to honor captain Andy McGrath, who will play his 200th game. The club is also expected to name a new head coach this week, with candidates reportedly including Mark McVeigh, James Hird, Jaymie Graham, and Murray Davis.
