Essendon defender Archie Roberts delays shoulder surgery to finish season

Essendon Football Club defender Archie Roberts dislocated his right shoulder in the club’s June loss to Melbourne. Despite advice from senior players to have immediate surgery, he chose to postpone the operation, missing only two games thanks to a bye week and planning to undergo the procedure after the season ends.

Roberts said he had no regrets, stressing his desire to help the young Bombers develop ahead of 2027. He noted Essendon’s recent results—a 93‑point loss to Brisbane, a three‑point win over GWS and a 90‑point defeat by Hawthorn—and looked forward to the upcoming clash with Adelaide at Marvel Stadium.
