Essendon secures first AFLW win with comeback victory over GWS
Essendon secured their first AFLW win of the season with an eight-point comeback victory against Greater Western Sydney at Henson Park. Despite trailing by as many as 25 points early in the third quarter, the Bombers rallied to win 6. 7 (43) to 5. 5 (35).
Madison Prespakis led the Essendon performance with a game-high 35 disposals and a crucial goal during the third-term surge. Emily Gough also contributed significantly with two goals, including a checkside shot that helped seal the win. Essendon's efficiency proved decisive, converting 26 per cent of their entries compared to the Giants' 10 per cent conversion rate.
For the Giants, Alyce Parker recorded two goals and 25 disposals, while Zarlie Goldsworthy made her season debut following a recovery from a lower-leg fracture. The loss leaves the Giants struggling, while the win provides relief for Essendon coach Natalie Wood and moves the team off the bottom of the ladder.
