Essex cold case: New appeal to identify ‘Epping Forest Man’

Cold case organization Locate International has launched a new appeal to identify the man known as ‘Epping Forest Man,’ whose body was discovered in a shallow stream in Essex 44 years ago.

The man was found on September 25, 1982, in the Jack’s Hill area of Epping Forest, near Theydon Bois. An inquest conducted in January 1983 determined the cause of death was hypothermia. To assist in the identification, artist Hew Morrison has created a new forensic reconstruction of the deceased.

The man is described as a white male, approximately 5ft 8in tall, well-nourished, with green eyes, short hair, and a moustache. He was believed to be between 40 and 55 years old at the time of his death. When found, he was wearing a light brown corduroy safari-style jacket, a maroon v-neck jumper, a white vest, and brown lace-up leather shoes.
