Essex County Council invests £5m in Stansted Airport College expansion

Essex County Council has committed £5 million to fund the expansion of Stansted Airport College. The investment aims to more than double the institution's student intake, potentially increasing numbers from 568 to approximately 1,350.

A planning application submitted by Harlow College and London Stansted outlines the development of a new two-storey teaching building featuring 12 classrooms, a workshop, a hangar, and a covered courtyard. The project also includes an extended Aerozone education centre equipped with a viewing platform.

If the plans are approved, the first phase of construction—comprising the workshop, hangar, and courtyard—is expected to be operational by September 2027. The initiative is intended to strengthen the local skills pipeline and provide residents with pathways into highly skilled aviation careers.
