Essex drivers sentenced for anti-social driving at Southend car meet

Fifty-five drivers have been sentenced following anti-social driving incidents at a large car meet held on the Southend seafront on March 28. The legal proceedings were addressed during dedicated traffic offence court sessions at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court.

In the most recent session on September 17, 29 cases were heard, with 25 involving careless driving. Additional offences included seatbelt and mobile phone violations. The court issued 149 penalty points and financial penalties to 27 defendants. Five drivers, aged between 17 and 19, face the potential revocation of their licences, while two others are likely to face driving bans. Two drivers also received penalty points for dangerous vehicle conditions caused by modified exhaust systems that emitted flames, posing risks to pedestrians and occupants.

Across two dedicated court sessions held on June 23 and September 17, a total of 55 defendants have had their licences endorsed with 306 penalty points.
