Essex grandmother Rose Tresadern wins £1 million National Lottery

Rose Tresadern, an 80‑year‑old retired office manager from near Southend in Essex, and her children Barry and Julie matched five main numbers and the bonus ball in the National Lottery draw on 18 April, securing a £1 million prize. The numbers – 1, 4, 12, 15, 39 and bonus 48 – had been chosen years earlier by her late husband Derek, who died last year shortly after the couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

The family said the win felt like a sign that Derek was “still looking out for us”. Rose plans to use her share to move into a retirement home better suited to her mobility issues, take her Maltese dog Amira with her, and buy a new engagement ring in his memory. A senior winners’ adviser at the National Lottery operator Allwyn added, “There’s something truly special about the fact Derek chose the winning numbers many years ago and that the family continued playing them to honour him.”
