Essex stubble fire destroys 10 acres of farmland

A fire destroyed approximately 10 acres of stubble in Essex, an area roughly equivalent to the size of six football pitches. The Essex Fire and Rescue Service, including teams from Harlow, Chelmsford, and Sawbridgeworth, responded to the blaze.

Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control and prevent further spread with assistance from a local farmer, who ploughed around the flames to contain them. The incident occurred during a period of high wildfire risk in the UK following significant heatwaves and dry weather conditions.

Area Manager Dan Partridge issued warnings regarding the dangers of using fireworks, bonfires, or barbecues near dry grassland, noting that single sparks can cause rapid spread through dry vegetation, threatening lives, wildlife, and livelihoods.
