Estadio Nacional undergoes major renovation for U-20 World Cup

Chile has officially inaugurated the renovated infrastructure of the Estadio Nacional, the country’s primary sports venue. The upgrades are intended to prepare the stadium for the Men's U-20 World Cup, scheduled to take place between September 27 and October 19.

A major highlight of the renovation is the modernization of the main pitch to meet FIFA standards using hybrid grass technology, which combines natural grass with synthetic fibers for increased durability. Other improvements include modernized locker rooms equipped with cryotherapy tanks and massage beds, as well as upgraded public restrooms and medical zones.

The remodeling project involved an investment of $2.8 billion, executed by the Instituto Nacional del Deporte (IND) with funding from the Ministerio de Obras Públicas. This initiative is part of a broader plan to upgrade various sporting facilities across the country in anticipation of international tournaments.
