Mexico infrastructure: Edomex debt and regional works

The State of Mexico (Edomex) faces a significant public debt exceeding 58 billion pesos. This financial burden, accumulated through various administrations, continues to divert public resources away from essential services such as health, security, and infrastructure to cover interest and amortizations.

In contrast to the debt concerns, Governor Delfina Gómez Álvarez highlighted an investment of 19.8 billion pesos in public works across 125 municipalities since 2023. Key projects include the reconstruction of 108 kilometers of the Periférico Norte, the Interurban Train ‘El Insurgente’, and various water infrastructure improvements to prevent flooding.

In Colima, authorities and the business sector are coordinating the expansion of the Colima-Manzanillo highway. The project, which aims to increase the road to six lanes, is scheduled for completion before the December holiday season to support the regional logistics corridor.
