Estado de México launches unemployment support and educational initiatives
The Government of the State of Mexico, led by Governor Delfina Gómez Álvarez, has launched the 2026 Unemployment Support for Wellbeing Social Development Program. During a ceremony in Toluca, officials announced that the 2026 operational rules aim to provide at least 16,381 supports to 7,408 individuals to assist those who lost formal employment and to facilitate their reintegration into the labor market through the National Employment Service.
Additionally, the federal government and the State of Mexico are coordinating to strengthen educational rights and expand opportunities for youth. According to Mario Delgado Carrillo, head of the Secretariat of Public Education (SEP), joint efforts focus on scholarships, infrastructure, and increasing the availability of upper secondary and higher education. To date, more than 323,000 students in the state have benefited from scholarships. A key component of this strategy is the Integral Plan for the Eastern Zone of the State of Mexico, which includes creating new high schools and expanding higher education opportunities to address regional disparities.
