Estado de México presents book on forest amphibians at FILEM 2026
At the 2026 State of Mexico International Book Fair (FILEM), researchers and officials presented the book ‘Anfibios en ecosistemas forestales del Estado de México’. The publication, authored by Alejandro Sánchez Vélez, Sergio Cuevas, Eduardo Rendón, and Leopoldo Islas Flores, documents the unique and vulnerable amphibian species inhabiting the region's forest ecosystems.
Leopoldo Islas Flores, a researcher at UAEMéx, noted that Mexico hosts approximately 400 amphibian species, with 60 percent being endemic and 80 percent of those being microendemic. The book features exclusive photographic documentation obtained through motion-sensor camera traps.
Alejandro Sánchez Vélez, Director General of Probosque, emphasized that forest management is expanding beyond tree conservation to include entire biodiversity ecosystems. He stated that the upcoming 2027 State Forest Inventory will incorporate data regarding the conservation of wildlife habitats.
