Mexico states report declines in crime and homicide rates

Authorities in Mexico have reported significant shifts in crime statistics across several states. In Puebla, Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier highlighted a 24.1 percent reduction in intentional homicides between January and August of 2025 and the same period in 2026. Other reported decreases in the state include a 58 percent drop in femicides, a 40 percent decrease in kidnappings, and a 36 percent reduction in extortion. Additionally, the State Human Identification Program has successfully restored 167 bodies, serving as a model for other jurisdictions.

In the State of Mexico (Edoméx), the National Survey of Victimization and Perception of Public Security (ENVIPE) 2026 indicates a 15.5 percent decrease in crime incidence during 2025 compared to 2024. This trend is accompanied by an improved public perception regarding the effectiveness of various law enforcement branches, including municipal, state, and investigative police, as well as the judiciary and public prosecutors.
