Estado de México sets August 31 deadline for vehicle plate renewals

The Government of the State of Mexico has announced that the 2026 vehicle license plate renewal program (reemplacamiento) will conclude on August 31. This deadline applies primarily to vehicles with plates issued in 2020, 2021, or earlier.

Failure to complete the renewal by the deadline may result in fines of up to 2,346 pesos. Additional penalties include traffic sanctions, the removal of license plates, vehicle impoundment, and the inability to complete mandatory vehicle emissions testing or access tax subsidies.

For the current month, the renewal process is designated for vehicles with license plates ending in 9 and 0. Costs for the procedure vary by vehicle type, with private service vehicles costing 1,161 pesos and motorcycles costing 864 pesos.
