Estée Lauder Companies funds $15M breast cancer research initiative

The Estée Lauder Companies has announced a $15 million grant to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) to launch the Global Research Initiative on Breast Cancer in Younger Women. This five-year commitment aims to establish the largest coordinated global research program focused on early-onset breast cancer.

The initiative addresses a critical gap in medical funding; while breast cancer diagnoses among women under 45 increased by 11 percent between 2012 and 2022, only an estimated 0.6 percent of breast cancer research funding since 2020 has been directed toward this demographic. Research indicates that breast cancer in younger women is often diagnosed at a later stage and behaves more aggressively, with women diagnosed before age 40 facing a nearly 40 percent higher mortality rate.

The program will support scientists worldwide in investigating factors leading to early-onset cancer and improving methods for risk prediction, prevention, early detection, and treatment.
