Pumas UNAM adds Sebastián Córdova and Cristian Calderón for Apertura 2026
Club Universidad Nacional (Pumas UNAM) presented midfielder Sebastián Córdova and left‑back Cristian “Chicote” Calderón as its first signings for the Apertura 2026 season, with Esteban Solari installed as the new head coach. Both players, who previously featured for América among other clubs, affirmed their commitment to Pumas, with Córdova saying, “Hoy en día nos debemos a Pumas y haremos lo mejor que podamos para ir por el campeonato,” and Calderón noting, “El pasado es historia, nos debemos a Pumas.” Vice‑president of sport Antonio Sancho indicated that the club still has a foreign‑player slot open and that Victor Arteaga is undergoing medical exams. In addition, 18‑year‑old forward Julio César Domínguez Castillejos, son of former defender “Cata” Domínguez, was officially registered with the first‑team squad, aiming to debut in Liga MX. The acquisitions are intended to strengthen the roster and help the club end a 15‑year title drought.
