Estefanía Laterza nears appointment as Paraguayan Ambassador to the US

The Paraguayan Senate is set to vote on the constitutional agreement to appoint Estefanía Laterza de los Ríos as the new ambassador to the United States. Laterza, who currently serves as the director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Diplomatic and Consular Academy, is expected to appear before the Foreign Relations Commission to discuss her objectives for the post.

Despite opposition from certain regional leaders of the Colorado Party due to her affiliation with the Authentic Radical Liberal Party (PLRA), lawmakers from the Honor Colorado faction and various opposition members have signaled their support. Senate President Basilio 'Bachi' Núñez stated that the nomination should be prioritized based on her professional qualifications and diplomatic experience rather than party affiliation.

Legislators expect to exceed the 23 votes required for approval, with support coming from the ruling coalition and progressive senators who have criticized attempts by party sectors to influence foreign policy appointments.
