Esteghlal confronts FIFA lawsuits and transfer‑window dispute
Iranian club Esteghlal Tehran is entangled in several legal disputes as the new season approaches. The club says forward Musi Jenpo unilaterally terminated his contract, citing security concerns, and has filed a complaint with FIFA. Esteghlal has requested a 20‑day extension from FIFA to submit its defence, arguing that the player’s return was feasible after the cease‑fire.
Other contractual issues involve midfielder Yaser Asani, a financial claim by Ricardo Sapinto, and the status of Haitian striker Da'knez Nazoon, who refused to return to Iran after the recent conflict. The club also awaits a Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruling that will determine whether its transfer window can be opened, a decision that could reshape its recruitment strategy. In parallel, the board is close to confirming a new chief executive officer, pending approval from the club’s holding company.
