Esteghlal football club to select new CEO after Khalij Fars Holding's extraordinary meeting

The Khalij Fars Holding, which owns Tehran's Esteghlal football club, will hold an extraordinary general assembly on Monday, 5 Mordad, to elect members of its board of directors. The outcome is expected to influence the club’s management structure, including the appointment of a permanent chief executive officer.

Current board members include Ali Tajernia, who has been acting as both chairman of the board and interim CEO since the resignation of Ali Nazari‑Javibari after the club’s Super Cup defeat. Tajernia has said he is willing to hand over day‑to‑day executive duties to a newly appointed CEO while remaining on the board. The meeting will also confirm whether the recently added board members – Mustafa Matdin and Seyed Hossein Alavi‑Moghadam – stay in place, and it may finally resolve the dual‑role ambiguity that has persisted for nearly a year.

If a new CEO is confirmed, the club will have a clear hierarchy for handling contracts, legal matters, foreign negotiations and financial management, ending the interim arrangement that has drawn media attention.
