Esteio bus services resume after wage-related strike
Public bus services in Esteio, Brazil, returned to normal on Wednesday afternoon following a morning strike by workers of Viação Santa Clara (Visac). The stoppage, which involved 50 workers and 23 vehicles, disrupted local transit and connections with the Trensurb system.
The strike was triggered by delays in September salary payments. According to the Sindicato dos Trabalhadores em Transportes Rodoviários de São Leopoldo e Região, the delays were linked to financial disagreements between the municipality of Esteio and the bus company. Union representatives also cited recurring issues with advances and health insurance coverage.
Following a mediation hearing at the Tribunal Regional do Trabalho da 4ª Região (TRT-4), an agreement was reached. Visac confirmed that salaries were credited by late morning and committed to not deducting the hours lost during the strike. The municipal government stated it is continuing to monitor the situation.
