Esther Perel explains the difference between conflict and gaslighting

Psychotherapist Esther Perel discusses the critical distinction between standard relationship disagreements and psychological manipulation, known as gaslighting. While disagreements may involve differing memories or perspectives, gaslighting undermines an individual's fundamental right to their own reality and perceptions.

In her podcast 'Where Should We Begin?', Perel addresses the common question of whether a person is being overly sensitive or is being manipulated. A key indicator of manipulation is when a partner's behavior causes an individual to doubt their own judgment, memory, or sense of self.

Additionally, signs of a low-vibration or emotionally draining relationship include chronic emotional exhaustion, a lack of accountability from one partner, and the constant minimization of one's feelings and needs. In such dynamics, one partner may feel burdened, unheard, or responsible for all conflicts, leading to a loss of trust in their own emotional validity.
