Estonia celebrates International Music Day with concerts and choral releases
Estonia celebrates International Music Day on October 1 with various musical events across the country. In Hiiumaa, the Vanalinn College string orchestra, conducted by Rasmus Puur, will perform two free concerts. One will take place at the Käina Interest and Culture Centre at 13:00, and another at the Kärdla Church at 18:00. The repertoire features a cross-section of Estonian and European compositions, including works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Jean Sibelius, and Gustav Holst, alongside Estonian composers such as René Eespere and Mart Saar.
In Rae municipality, the Rae Culture Centre will host a presentation concert for the vinyl record ‘Nelikõla’ at 19:00. The record is a collaborative project involving four local choirs: Rae Chamber Choir, Patika Village Choir, Heliand Mixed Choir, and Kindluse Community Choir. Dedicated to the 160th anniversary of Rae municipality, the album features Estonian choral music ranging from folk-based arrangements to contemporary works by composers like Veljo Tormis and Pärt Uusberg. The concert is free to the public.
