Estonia pledges €340,000 in winter aid for Ukraine

Estonia has pledged €340,000 in humanitarian aid to assist Ukraine in preparing for the upcoming winter. The funding, announced by the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is specifically targeted toward frontline regions, including Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhia.

The aid will be distributed through non-governmental organizations and focuses on several key areas. Approximately €160,000 is designated for the renovation and equipment of 13 centers for internally displaced persons, aimed at improving energy efficiency and providing heat for roughly 860 people. Another €160,000 will support Ukrainian families with heating costs and livestock maintenance. The remaining funds will be used to equip two mobile emergency and heating points for the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.

Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna noted that Russian attacks on infrastructure could lead to significant disruptions in electricity and heating. Concurrently, Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi has been reviewing energy balances and electricity and gas forecasts to ensure proactive winter readiness as the country anticipates potential shifts in Russian targeting strategies.
