Estonia to conduct nationwide emergency alert test on October 14
The Estonian Rescue Board is conducting a nationwide emergency alert test on October 14 as part of Civil Protection Month. The test aims to verify the reliability of alert systems and identify potential technical bottlenecks.
The testing process will occur in two stages. First, a reminder SMS will be sent to mobile phones in the afternoon. Subsequently, between 15:00 and 15:10, sirens will sound, and alerts will be distributed via the Eesti app, the ‘Ole valmis!’ mobile application, and through scrolling text on Estonian National Broadcasting (ERR) channels.
In conjunction with the test, the Rescue Board is promoting crisis preparedness through various initiatives, including quizzes, workshops for youth, and information sessions for schools and housing associations. Authorities are encouraging citizens to develop personal shelter plans, noting that the safest location during a real emergency is typically an interior room on a low floor with multiple strong walls.
