Estonian Defence Forces innovation command marks first anniversary

The Estonian Defence Forces' Future Capability and Innovation Command (TIVJ) has marked its first anniversary. Established to support the sustainable development of combat capabilities, the command aims to address identified capability gaps and accelerate the discovery, testing, and integration of new solutions into the military.

Major Ivo Peets, head of the command, stated that the first year has helped the organization better understand how to effectively approach the needs of the defence forces. The command has focused on creating more open opportunities for cooperation between the military and external technology and investment partners. Peets emphasized that technology management is being treated as a military command function, supported by a network of technology managers and improved testing processes.

The command coordinates various military activities and projects, including unmanned systems and counter-unmanned technologies, artificial intelligence, data, autonomy, and space-based capabilities. Additionally, the TIVJ works on enhancing the Baltic defense zone and developing cooperation with the defense industry, research institutions, and international partners.
