Estonian film ‘Morten’ wins three awards at Italy’s Giffoni Festival

The Estonian youth film “Morten”, a debut feature directed by Ivan Pavljutskov, captured three prizes at the Giffoni Children and Youth Film Festival in Italy (July 17‑25, 2026). The film earned the Gryphon award for the best 15+ category, a CONOU special prize recognizing sustainability‑related themes, and the CGS “Percorsi Creativi 2026” award for youth social‑cultural film clubs. The festival’s international jury, composed of about 600 young viewers, highlighted the film’s focus on self‑discovery, belonging and authenticity.

Morten” is based on award‑winning author Reeli Reinaus’s book “Morten, Emilie ja kadunud maailmad”. Production was handled by Kopli Kinokompanii together with Lithuanian co‑producer Fralita Films, with Anneli Ahven as producer. The cast includes Tõru Kannimäe as Fränk, Helena Maria Reisner, Emili Rohumaa and others. The movie will open in Estonian cinemas on 11 September 2026.
