Estonian municipalities honor educators and education supporters
Municipalities in Estonia have held ceremonies to honor educators and supporters of the education sector.
In Otepää Parish, a recognition event was held at Villa Müllerbeck on October 9. The ceremony honored local teachers and finalists for national education awards. Otepää Parish Council Chairman Siim Kalda, Parish Mayor Jorma Riivald, and Deputy Mayor Kaija Kõiv presented letters of thanks and mementos to the recipients. Officials emphasized that while modern buildings and technology are important, they cannot replace the role of teachers in shaping the future of children and the community.
In Põltsamaa Parish, a ceremony took place on October 5 at the Põltsamaa Culture Centre to celebrate Teachers' Day. The event recognized long-term service in education, as well as outstanding achievements by educators and supporters. Notable honorees included Jõgevamaa's Teacher of the Year winners: Helen Žukovits (kindergarten), Margit Tõnisson (primary school), and Margit Uus (high school). The municipality also presented awards for various roles, including assistant teachers, class teachers, subject teachers, and support specialists.
