Estonian youth share expectations for parliamentary candidates

Ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections in Estonia, young citizens shared their views at the Arvamusfestival regarding the qualities they desire in future Riigikogu candidates.

Participants emphasized the importance of honesty, responsibility, and the ability to adapt to a volatile political landscape. Some youth expressed a preference for politicians who demonstrate courage in stating their convictions, citing Kaja Kallason as an example of someone unafraid to voice opinions. Other qualities highlighted included charisma, expertise, and the ability to engage in polite debate.

There was also a noted concern regarding the rise of populism and provocative rhetoric in the current political climate. Respondents suggested that future leaders should be capable of thinking outside the box, offering new ideas, and maintaining public trust through social competence and clear communication.
