Estonia and Lithuania record rise in exports and imports in May

In May 2024 Estonia’s foreign trade showed a 9% year‑on‑year increase in exports and a 4% rise in imports, according to the Statistics Office. Export to EU member states grew 13% while import from them rose 9%. Analyst Jane Leppmets noted that “export to EU member states grew 13% while import from them rose 9%.” The trade surplus narrowed to €224 million.

During the January‑May period Lithuania reported a 3% increase in total goods exports to €15.93 billion and a 2.4% rise in imports to €18.74 billion, resulting in a trade deficit of €2.81 billion. Excluding oil products, overall export volume was slightly lower than the previous year, but exports of mineral fuels, oils and electrical machinery drove the growth. Main export partners were Latvia, Poland and Germany, while imports came mainly from Poland, Germany and Latvia.
