Estrecho Natural Park faces fire risk due to waste and neglect
The environmental organization AGADEN Ecologistas en Acción has issued an urgent warning to the Algeciras City Council regarding the poor maintenance of the CA-223 road within the Estrecho Natural Park.
According to the group, the stretch of road between Arroyo del Lobo and the Faro de Punta Carnero urbanization is suffering from significant neglect. They report an accumulation of dry vegetation, plastics, bottles, and other waste along the road margins, ditches, and the bicycle lane. This buildup is identified as a major fire hazard, particularly as the region is currently in a period of peak forest fire risk.
AGADEN stated that the current state of abandonment is “not admissible” for a protected natural space. Beyond the fire risk, the organization noted that the deteriorating condition of the pedestrian and cycling paths poses safety risks to users and creates an image of “absolute neglect” at one of the primary access points to the Natural Park. The group is calling for immediate cleaning, brush clearing, and waste removal to ensure both environmental protection and public safety.
