Estrela da Amadora sold to investment group for 40 million euros
An international investment consortium has acquired 90% of the controlling interest in the Portuguese top-flight football club Estrela da Amadora for approximately 40 million euros. The group includes prominent former Bayern Munich players Thomas Müller, Mats Hummels, Yann Sommer, and Lucas Hernández, alongside investment firms ADvantage, LEAD, and the Cologne-based KI Group.
Johannes Mösmang, a former player manager at Bayern Munich, has been appointed as the new president of the club's professional football entity (SAD). Francisco Lopo will remain in his role as CEO to assist with the transition. The deal marks a significant increase in the club's valuation; the previous ownership, led by Paulo Lopo, had acquired the club for just 72,000 euros in 2020 when it was in the fourth division.
The new ownership aims to leverage their international expertise, networks, and reach to develop young talent and improve the club's competitive standing within the Primeira Liga. The investment is also positioned to benefit from upcoming reforms in the centralization of Portuguese audiovisual broadcasting rights expected by 2028.
