Estrella Joselin Vargas Delgado launches oncology support network

Estrella Joselin Vargas Delgado, a 19-year-old student at the Colegio de Bachilleres del Estado de Chihuahua (Cobach), has launched a support network for oncology patients and those with chronic illnesses. After surviving a four-year battle with medulloblastoma following a diagnosis at age 14, Vargas Delgado established the initiative ‘Brilla mi Estrella’ in August 2023, which is currently working toward becoming a formal foundation.

The initiative manages several community benefit projects. ‘Rapunzel’ collects hair to create and distribute over 35 oncology wigs across Mexico and the United States. The ‘Dispensario en Red’ program has provided more than 500 treatments to patients in need. Additionally, the ‘Gotitas de Pura Vida’ program connects transfusion recipients with voluntary donors in regions including Chihuahua, Torreón, Durango, Parral, Delicias, and Camargo.

Other efforts include the distribution of breast prostheses, specialized chairs, crutches, and diapers, as well as the ‘Abrazos de Puro Peluche’ holiday campaign for hospitalized children. The organization's growth is supported by donations, fundraising activities, and benefactors.
