Estremoz celebrates 100 years of city status
The city of Estremoz celebrated the 100th anniversary of its elevation to city status with a ceremony held on Sunday, August 30. The event, held at Rossio Marquês de Pombal, included institutional speeches, musical performances, and a tribute to local history and institutions.
During the commemorations, Mayor José Daniel Sádio noted that the city is a continuous project, highlighting future priorities such as housing, public water supply, urban regeneration, historical heritage recovery, education, and health. He remarked that Estremoz has transitioned from an isolated interior village to a central hub within the European space, capable of attracting new residents and investment.
Manuel Castro Almeida, the Minister of Economy and Territorial Cohesion, presided over the ceremony. He emphasized the importance of preserving local identity and noted that the city's dynamic associative movement is a significant strength for its economic and touristic potential.
