Estudiantes de La Plata hire Alexander Medina after Eduardo Domínguez leaves for Atlético Mineiro

Estudiantes de La Plata appointed Uruguayan coach Alexander Medina on 23 February 2026, signing him until December 2026 with an option for 2027. Medina, 47, previously managed Nacional, Talleres de Córdoba, Inter de Brasil, Vélez Sarsfield and Granada, and received public support from goalkeeper Fernando Muslera. He prepared a short, aggressive playing style ahead of his first match, the classic against Independiente at the Hirschi stadium.

Argentine coach Eduardo Domínguez, also 47, departed Estudiantes to become head coach of Brazil’s Atlético Mineiro on 26 February 2026. The Brazilian club paid a US$1.5 million release clause and offered a contract through December 2027. Domínguez has turned the Arena MRV into a strong home venue with an 83.3 % win rate, while seeking to improve results on the road.
