Eswatini and Botswana implement digital health systems

Eswatini and Botswana are implementing digital health systems to modernize their healthcare delivery and improve patient management.

In Eswatini, Minister of Health Mduduzi Matsebula recently assessed the progress of digital health technologies at Hhukwini Clinic. The initiative utilizes the Electronic Logistics Management Information System (eLMIS) to monitor medical commodity stock levels and the Client Management Information System (CMIS) to manage patient records. These tools aim to reduce medicine shortages, minimize losses from expired products, and support data-driven decision-making.

Botswana has launched IKITSE, a Digital Community Health Information System (DCHIS), to transition from paper-based reporting to real-time data management. The system is designed to reduce administrative burdens on Community Health Workers, allowing them to focus more on service delivery. IKITSE includes remote surveillance capabilities and executive dashboards to enhance monitoring and coordination within the primary healthcare system.
