Eswatini delays 24% edible oil import levy to 2027

The implementation of a proposed 24 per cent levy on imported edible oils in Eswatini has been postponed from September 1, 2026, to January 1, 2027. This delay follows interventions by Business Eswatini (BE) regarding concerns raised by industry players.

The postponement is intended to provide businesses within the edible oils value chain additional time to prepare for the new costs. It also allows Business Eswatini and the National Agricultural Marketing Board (NAMBoard) to conduct further consultations. These discussions will focus on the potential impact of the levy on business input costs, consumer prices, and local market competitiveness.
